The Significance of Programmability
Programmability in data centers has been a topic of interest for some time, with IT managers seeking more comprehensive control over data center switches and other network components. The continuous growth of cloud applications and services, as well as the increasing use of video across various applications, contribute to a massive volume of data that relies on data centers. Operators are now searching for flexible programmable switches that provide enhanced control over their data centers compared to traditional fixed-function switches. Programmable switch ASICs not only allow customization of switch behavior but also leverage the unique features of data centers to scale effectively.
Advantages of Programmable Switches
Programmable switch ASICs offer unparalleled customization capabilities without significantly impacting performance, power consumption, or costs. This allows for a more efficient packet pipeline and enables users to tailor the behavior of physical switches to meet their specific requirements. Programmable switches contribute to the development of scalable infrastructure services while reaping the benefits of automation. Furthermore, operators can enjoy low latency, high throughput, and reduced costs with programmable switches.
