Cumulus Linux and a SONiC build qualified for the SN3420 are the documented NOS choices. ONIE installs the selected image. An ordinary Linux distribution is not automatically a supported switch NOS with platform and ASIC drivers. Other NOS options may be available as the ecosystem evolves.

Cumulus Linux provides a Linux environment for supported containers and applications. Keep workloads within the switch control-plane CPU and memory limits. Check Docker/container support in the installed release; the switch is not a general-purpose server for heavy network functions.
