Answer:

The SN4600C supports qualified Cumulus Linux releases. It provides hardware-accelerated switching, routing and VXLAN, with What Just Happened telemetry for packet-drop diagnostics. WJH is not a general deep-packet-inspection engine. Check the release feature matrix for any additional requirement.

Are there any benefits of running SONiC on this platform?

Answer:

SONiC offers a modular, container-based NOS and the open SONiC ecosystem. Cumulus Linux provides a Linux networking environment with NVUE and familiar automation tools. The MSN4600-CS2FC ordering code includes Cumulus Linux. Choose by the supported features, operating model and licensing; switching NOS does not automatically remove the cost of an existing bundle. Other NOS options may be available as the ecosystem evolves.

Can the SN4600C handle multi-speed breakout configurations on all ports, and how does Cumulus Linux manage these?

Answer:

The SN4600C supports lower-speed breakout on compatible QSFP28 ports. The exact port modes depend on Cumulus Linux release, optics and breakout cables. Use NVIDIA’s platform port-mode table for the required configuration.

Question:

What troubleshooting tools and commands are recommended on the SN4600C w/Cumulus?

Answer:

Use NVUE commands such as nv show for the current Cumulus Linux configuration and status, along with Linux tools such as ip, ethtool and tcpdump where appropriate. WJH provides packet-drop diagnostics on supported releases. The older NCLU net show/net add commands are not the configuration interface for current Cumulus Linux 5 releases.

Question:

Is Onyx still supported on this switch? Also, can I buy it bare metal (without any OS installed)?

Answer:

MSN4600-CS2FC is supplied with Cumulus Linux. NVIDIA discontinued specified Onyx-based SN4600 configurations. That does not establish continuing support for an existing Onyx installation, which must be checked against its exact hardware, software release and support agreement. This SKU includes Cumulus Linux; a bare-metal order would require a separately identified configuration.

Answer:

Segment-routing support must be checked for the exact protocol, hardware and NOS release. Current Cumulus Linux SRv6 documentation names Spectrum-4 platforms; it is not proof of SRv6 support on this Spectrum-3 switch.
