Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

Which network operating systems can I run on the AMX3200-O-AC-F?

Hardware Nation
12-Oct-2026

Answer:

NEC NOS is a software option for the AMX3200. It is an open optical transport platform, so its software must control the coherent line interfaces and transponder functions. Other NOS options may be available as the ecosystem evolves.

Question:

Is the AMX3200 an Ethernet switch or an optical transport system?

Hardware Nation
12-Oct-2026

Answer:

It is a 1RU coherent transponder and muxponder for optical transport. It combines client connections onto coherent line-side links rather than acting as an ordinary leaf or spine Ethernet switch.

Question:

How many client and line ports does it have?

Hardware Nation
12-Oct-2026

Answer:

Each sled has eight 40G/100G QSFP+/QSFP28 client ports and two 400G CFP2-DCO line ports. A fully populated two-sled chassis has 16 client ports and four line ports.

Question:

Which coherent optical standards does it support?

Hardware Nation
12-Oct-2026

Answer:

OIF 400ZR, OpenZR+ and OpenROADM. The usable line rate and reach depend on the selected coherent module and the optical link design.

Question:

What power and airflow does this version use?

Hardware Nation
12-Oct-2026

Answer:

AMX3200-O-AC-F uses AC power supplies with front-to-back airflow. The PSUs are hot-swappable and load-sharing with 1+1 redundancy.

Question:

Does it have redundant cooling?

Hardware Nation
12-Oct-2026

Answer:

Yes. It has five hot-swappable fan modules in a 4+1 redundant arrangement.

Question:

What CPU, memory and storage does it have?

Hardware Nation
12-Oct-2026

Answer:

An Intel Atom C3508 CPU, 8 GB DDR4 memory with support for up to 16 GB, and 128 GB SSD storage.

Question:

Can I assume every 400G optic will work in it?

Hardware Nation
12-Oct-2026

Answer:

No. The client side uses QSFP+/QSFP28 modules and the coherent line side uses CFP2-DCO modules. Module type, supported line mode and optical link requirements must match the transport configuration.
