Questions & Answers

Question:

Can the SN5400 handle advanced telemetry use cases?

[email protected]
17-Jul-2025

Answer:

Yes, it supports NVIDIA’s What Just Happened® (WJH) telemetry, streaming telemetry, and deep packet inspection at line rate.

Question:

What airflow does it have? Is it reversible?

[email protected]
17-Jul-2025

Answer:

It has only the C2P airflow (does not support P2C due to thermal limitations in reverse).

Question:

What operating systems are officially supported on the SN5400?

[email protected]
17-Jul-2025

Answer:

Cumulus Linux and SONiC.

Question:

Can I run third-party or custom NOS software on the SN5400?

[email protected]
17-Jul-2025

Answer:

The switch has the ONIE bootloader pre-installed, which allows for a variety of operating systems to be installed. However, it officially supports Cumulus Linux and SONiC. Most organizations opt for Cumulus Linux as that is the flagship NOS of NVIDIA spectrum and it is already pre-loaded on every Spectrum switch (you will not be able to get bare metal ONIE Spectrum switches).
